2008 NFC North Overview

Green Bay Packers
Now that Favre is no longer a man withoutSoccer jerseys a team, the Pack can focus on developing its signal callers. There's plenty of talent and a whole lot of inexperience at the QB spot. The defense is one of the best in the NFL and each squad has some fine, young talent.
Chicago Bears
As the starting quarterback for the Bears, Rex Grossman is on a short leash. If he doesn't come through, coach Lovie Smith will bench him. The running game is questionable. The defense and special teams are superior.
Detroit Lions
Detroit QB Jon Kitna could be on the bench if he makes too many mistakes. Either Dan Orlovsky or Drew Stanton may end up commanding the field. The receiving unit is expert.
Final Analysis
The Minnesota Vikings are in the driver's seat in the NFC North. The Green Bay Packers should be competitive. Both could be in the playoffs. The Chicago Bears need Grossman to make fewer mistakes to get to the playoffs. The team of the future in this mix is the Detroit Lions.
Sunday, August 24, 2008 -- The NFC North is made up of the much improved Minnesota Vikings, the transforming Chicago Bears and the static Detroit Lions.
Of course, there's also the Brett Favre-less Green Bay Packers. Every one of these clubs is questionable when it comes to the QB spot.
Minnesota Vikings
The Vikings pass catching unit has been upgraded and will be lethal if third-year QB Tarvaris Jackson cuts down on his mistakes. On defense, it's almost impossible for any club to run against Minnesota. Pass coverage is good and the linebackers are skilled and smart.
2008 Finish and Record
1) Minnesota Vikings (10-6)
2) Green Bay packers (9-7)
3) Chicago Bears (8-8)
4) Detroit Lions (6-10)
